The Suburb D-WP is a waterproof motorcycle shoe, which we emphasise because the D-WP stands for DAINESE WaterProof. There. Please be sure to keep a little reserve, given the rest of the construction – it is still a relatively low motorcycle shoe – but the Suburb D-WP is a very practical and comfortable motorcycle sneaker with literally one extra layer, which waterproofs it.
The Suburb D-WP by DAINESE reveals its favourite playing field right there in the name. This motorcycle shoe is ankle-high and urban. Maximum comfort both on and off the motorbike, in an appealing packaging. The Suburb D-WP is effectively a contemporary motorcycle shoe. Stylish and closely related to ‘regular’ sneakers, hence, ideal to travel smoothly both on two wheels or without any wheels. Plus, it’s okay if it rains. Now, sitting right behind the front wheel or during a long motorway ride, even the D-WP won’t be able to keep the water out, that much is clear. But it definitely won’t hurt.
The exterior is made of microfibre and textile, supported by the membrane. There’s variation and motion in materials and textures. Plenty to keep it interesting without going over the top. This is a sufficiently sturdy motorcycle shoe, in the sense that it has a certain – required – rigidity. Don’t expect any cups, plates or other ‘heavy’ impact protection: lightness is what DAINESE is going for here, which they achieve in a practical and comfortable way. And with an eye for detail but then again, that’s something you might suspect from a brand like DAINESE.
The Groundtrax sole is asymmetrical and if you look closely, you’ll notice how the brake was given a different contact panel than the gear lever. This creates the right grip and stability in the right place, states DAINESE. Right above the sole, the Ortholite footbed ensures additional damping and high breathability for extra comfort. The laces and pull tab in the back shouldn’t be a problem when used correctly.
You tuck away the lace ends behind the elasticated band on the tongue of the Suburb D-WP, right below the speed demon that makes the Suburb D-WP clearly recognisable for all DAINESE fans.
