This IXS 868 jet helmet is a sharply priced motorcycle helmet with a long, transparent visor. The integrated sun visor is a bonus and the most recent ECE 22.06 certification a fact. This IXS 868 motorcycle helmet has everything you might need from a helmet.
Admittedly, circumstances have to play along but you rarely wear a jet helmet in winter or combined with an R1 and when you’re striving Hayabusa speeds, you’ll probably pick something else. Then again, the IXS 868 is perfect for the more laid-back, relaxed outings in an urban context. The occasional passenger will enjoy it too.
The (only) helmet shell of the IXS 868 motorcycle helmet is made of thermoplastic and contains all helmet sizes. The low weight – about 1,400 grams – is the logical result. IXS uses three sizes of EPS shell (the protective inside of the motorcycle helmet) to make sure the different sizes fit well and are comfortable to wear.
The double top ventilation can be opened and closed by means of two sliders. These can be operated with or without motorcycle gloves and allow enough wind to enter. This wind exits in the back out the double outlets, that are sharply designed. We feel it’s evident that chin ventilation is obvious in these types of helmets. Although… This IXS 868 jet helmet is equipped with a transparent visor that is sufficiently long to cover your entire face. Not that it creates the illusion of riding with a full-face helmet but closing this visor does open up the option of using the motorway in a comfortable manner.
At the left, near the hinge point, you can find the operation for the integrated sun visor. Easy, practical on the road and decent; there aren’t many alternatives with more options in this price class.
The washable, removable lining and cheek pads are easy to maintain. Glasses-wearers will easily find their way. The IXS 868 jet helmet is finished with a decent neck rim. The closure is micrometric.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is mandatory to have reflective stickers on your helmet. The iXS 868 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Do you dread disassembling the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and Visor Cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
