It’s hard to get any closer to a modern jet helmet that couples classic shapes to an ECE 22.06 certification. An upside-down bucket up to the neck, with retro lines, and an integrated sun visor for a ‘vintage’ price: meet the IXS 880 1.16 and be amazed.
The IXS 880 1.16 is an open-face motorcycle helmet the way children draw them. The motorcycle helmet shell in polycarbonate is relatively light without many protrusions, bells or whistles. The only thing breaking the even design line is the traditional leather attachment for helmet goggles. The two chrome buttons on the left and right too, but they are where they should be.
The integrated sun visor is the most important and most remarkable expansion – without being an expansion at all. The sun visor comes standard, adding a few grams to the scales to tips towards the 1,200 grams but it is obviously also an added comfortable element on the road. Considering the fact that these types of helmet are mainly interesting in summer, it’s a relief knowing that you won’t have to search for those sun glasses every time. Just flip down the sun visor, or push it back up. The integrated sun visor is limited in length and stops at the nose, so there is no ‘full-face’ visor here.
The finishing of the IXS 880 1.16 is at level. The motorcycle helmet rim, the high-quality lining, the micrometric closure… Everything looks the part. Take another look at the price of this motorcycle helmet, remember that the ECE 22.06 certification is a fact and come to the conclusion that you can’t go wrong with this.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is mandatory to have reflective stickers on your helmet. The iXS 880 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Do you dread disassembling the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and Visor Cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
