This new full-face helmet can be found in the higher half of the HJC segment. The F71 is ECE R22.06 certified and ready to be fitted with the newest generation of Smart HJC intercom devices (11B, 21B and 50B). If you add the innovated integrated sun visor and all the assets that were already making a difference in its predecessor, you’ll find this is a premium motorcycle helmet ideal for sporty touring.
The helmet shell of the F71 is made of ‘advanced fibreglass’ – which doesn’t say a whole lot until we explain that the ‘advanced’ applies mainly to the CAD technology used and that the fibreglass excels in lightweight and a tight fit; that’ll explain it a little better.
Three helmet shells (one more than the predecessor) contain the different helmet sizes, which means that you’ll never be on the road with redundant material. The scale says it results in 1,550 grams. You should take into account that there are two visors attached and – you’ll feel it the minute you wear the HJC F71 – that the interior can be categorised under ‘dense’. The shape of the helmet shell; we can tell you that it comes straight from the wind tunnel tests and is therefore more aerodynamic. Pay attention to the back of the HJC F71 that can definitely demonstrate how some physics laws work.
Prominently present and visible is the ACS ventilation system. The central chin ventilation (tilting) can’t be missed and aims for active supply of fresh riding wind – together with the double top ventilation – and hence draining heat and moisture through the back, where three outlets offer a way out.
Despite the inlets and outlets, the shape of the HJC F71 is still pretty rounded and conventional. The only thing that literally sticks out is the slider on the left – easy to operate the integrated sun visor with gloves on. And not just any sun visor: ‘DMS’ stands for Dynamic Multistep Sunshield, which means that the sun visor can be locked into several positions. By ‘configuring’ the right setting once by removing the cover on the left, right above the slider, you determine the position of the sun visor when flipped down. The possibilities in flip-down depth allow for any morphology and preference to be an option. Read: no more issues for riders endowed with a well-developed sniffer.
The double-lockable transparent visor is wide, fits well and is Pinlock® ready with the matching Pinlock® lens supplied in the box.
A full-face helmet like this one requires a Double-D ring closure, the only kind allowed for track use. In this case, the closure is attached to the end of a comfortable chin strap. In case of an emergency, the emergency services will be able to better assess the situation and if needed, remove the motorcycle helmet with ease thanks to the Emergency Kit Cheek Pads.
The interior of the F71 is made of a washable, antibacterial, moisture-wicking, temperature regulating fabric that drains perspiration and prevents unpleasant odours. The interior is removable and hand-washable.
The wind curtain chin and the breath deflector are part of the standard supply, just like the Pinlock®-lens. They all help increase comfort.
In some countries (e.g., France), it is mandatory to provide your helmet with reflective stickers. The F71 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor Cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
