It is brand-new, this ECE R22.06-certified jet helmet by HJC. The F31 is a lightweight that is technically on point with a number of very recent novelties on board to show for it – delivering an outstanding maxi jet helmet.
If a jet helmet is a ‘brain bucket’, then the maxi-jet is a tub with jets, self-closing lid and air pressure valve. Well, the F31 is leaning closer to the latter, anyway. The F31 is ECE R22.06-certified and prepared to be fitted with the latest generation of Smart HJC intercom devices (11B, 21B en 50B). You may now add the new integrated sun visor and this result is probably even better than the whirlpool.
The motorcycle helmet shell is made of ‘advanced fibreglass composite’, which shows in its low weight, proper fit and plenty of comfort. The scale tips at a mere 1.450 grams. This might seem like a high number, however, it has two visors attached to it, plus, every ECE R22.06-certified motorcycle helmet carries a little extra weight. Three helmet shells contain all helmet sizes, keeping everything comfortably within limits.
The aerodynamic helmet shell allows for a maximum amount of riding wind to enter the ACS - Advanced Channelling System – forcing the warm, damp air irrevocably out. Logic (and the laws of physics) requires that three air inlets as top ventilation and one air outlet in the back are more than enough for this process. In any way, it doesn’t compromise aerodynamics, which compensates for that little extra weight, and it enhances comfort.
The transparent visor connects closely to the reinforcements below and the hinge guarantees proper closure to the sides. All very satisfying – not to mention efficient. The long transparent visor prevents you from having to gasp for air while going full-throttle. This Pinlock® ready visor is one of the things that makes a difference here, which can also be said of the integrated sun visor. That (shorter) sun visor is unquestionably a wonderful piece of technology. By ‘configuring’ the right setting once by removing the cover on the left, right above the slider, you determine the position of the sun visor when flipped down. The possibilities in flip-down depth allow for any morphology and preference to be an option. Read: no more issues for riders endowed with a well-developed sniffer.
The micrometric closure is obviously adjustable in length. A Pinlock®-lens is supplied. The F31 is an outstanding and practical option if the scooter/light motorbike is your fixed means of transport and the city is your natural habitat.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is mandatory to provide your helmet with reflective stickers. The F31 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
