The Hyke by Gianni Falco is a comfortable, ankle-high motorcycle shoe with waterproof – or at least, water-repellent – ambitions with a light, comfy sole construction that will easily get you through the day.
The level of ‘what you see is what you get’ with this Hyke is surprising. The exterior in Air-Tech textile is a breathing, wear-resistant construction that immediately sets the tone. Light and breezy, yet sufficiently firm. The soft, smooth inserts seem to want to emphasise that water can stay on the outside. They do just that, and they are supported by the internal ‘High-Tex’ membrane, but remember that ‘ankle-high’ and ‘waterproof’ are rarely a perfect combination. Moreover, Gianni Falco is of Italian origin, where a rain shower is not considered the same thing as a little more northern in Europe. With an 18-centimetre shaft, it will always be a tough task to sit right behind that fast-spinning front wheel and to stay watertight.
The lace closure is the only way to close the shoe. Don’t go looking for zips. The lace ends are then logically hidden behind the elasticated strip on the tongue of the Hyke.
The base of the Hyke is formed by the Vibram sole, which is decent, firm and made of a dual compound rubber. A serious asset, on as well as next to the motorcycle.
The PU reinforcements on the heel and by the toes offer a sturdy structure to the entire motorcycle shoe and together with the ankle cups, they provide sufficient protection to be able to call this a very good quality motorcycle shoe.
