It seems a bit contradictory, short and warm motorcycle gloves for winter with GORE-TEX. That’s right, there’s a little wrist still exposed although that doesn’t have to be an issue, does it? Motorcycle jackets, underlayers, membranes and thermal linings, pullovers and sweaters… Sometimes you are inclined to wear too many layers.
The true kryptonite is the other way around: thinking about wearing warm and long motorcycle gloves but then failing to sort out the sleeve end construction with its assortment of layers and types of materials hindering one another combined with those long motorcycle gloves, resulting in an uncomfortable situation. No, a good and well-functioning solution are these Kryptonite 3 GTX gloves.
Admittedly, wearing short motorcycle gloves is a personal choice. But if you are considering it, then there are few that are a better choice than the Kryptonite 3 GTX.
Forget about the Kryptonite 2 GTX. The knitted construction (which we liked) on the wrist has completely vanished from its successor, creating an entirely different end result. It may emphasise the more city, urban and practical context where these motorcycle gloves can reach their full potential. That is where practical comfort and long-term efficiency are the obvious combination, with the short cuff element being that little extra.
The waterproof component in these motorcycle gloves is almost completely achieved by the GORE-TEX membrane. Breathing, waterproof, dry and yet elegant: yes, we can. You will like the soft (3M Thinsulate G and High loft fur) padding from the very start: warm and perfect for winter, another great combination. The exterior is completely made of goatskin (palm and fingertips) with softshell on the back of the hand.
The most obvious ‘motorcycle’ element – on the outside – of this stylish motorcycle glove is the solid knuckle protector. The most obvious one but definitely not the only one. Temperfoam and a TPU slider on the ball of the hand and TPR finger protection are valuable additions. You’ll recognise how this Kryptonite 3 GTX can withstand a thing or two from the get-go.
The fingertips are GPS and smartphone compatible, complemented by a suede finger wiper, making sure you have everything to get through winter. About the suede wiper, we can add that it might need some time to get used to ‘wiping’ your visor with your left hand in an L-shape but it certainly is effective.
The mandatory closure is a sturdy Velcro strip on the wrist. Neat.
