The Tectonic H2O represents a completely new and alternative line of thinking. REV’IT! redefines the traditional concept of the motorcycle jacket as we know it by reversing the layers, developing a motorcycle jacket that is essentially two motorcycle jackets in one. This requires quite a lot of technical ingenuity and a small adjustment by the wearer – which is a definite return on investment.
Two motorcycle jackets to start with. The exterior is waterproof and consists of 3L ripstop with a hydratex membrane. At REV’IT!, they are not afraid to ride a motorcycle themselves; and it shows. Furthermore, they belong to the group of motorcyclists that like to have everything close at hand in that one, convenient package which is why they came up with this modular layering system. The waterproof buffer that constitutes the exterior is stylish, fitted and practical. Without additional protectors but with a class B-certification and hence, safe.
The Air mesh jacket underneath serves as a base layer and has been awarded AA-certified. If we take a close look at the Air mesh layer separately, then we can conclude that the robust PWR|Mesh somewhat resembles chainmail; apart from being seventy-seven times lighter and still more wear-resistant. The combination of mesh material ensures more freedom of movement than the average knight ever experienced and wear-resistance is a given. This is where we can find the ‘standard’ impact protection: SEEFLEX® shoulder and elbow protectors. This keeps the impact protection close to the body and in the proper position. A back protector and potential double SEESOFT chest protection can be added separately, should you want to. These slots have been provided.
Both the waterproof and wear-resistant outer layer as well as the mesh motorcycle jacket are standalone motorcycle jackets. Combined, they are more than the sum of their parts. The hood that is an inseparable part of the outer motorcycle jacket might be a concern for some, although the way in which it twists in itself and zips up is quite smart. That way, it is always near without flapping. There are ventilation zips too, to bridge the many levels between ‘full option inner and outer layer’ and ‘mesh inner layer only’. Obviously, you can also deploy the outer jacket as a standalone rain jacket. Without motorcycle or Tectonic base layer nearby. Or ride around all summer in your Tectonic mesh motorcycle jacket.
This is technical craftmanship. Excellently developed. The large storage space in the lower back, the thumb loops and the additional storage compartment on the left underarm. Many other storage compartments too and the remarkable ease to combine them all. Combine these layers or with any other (loose) layer you’d want.
The Tectonic H2O is a top-level all-rounder. Anyone who is already familiar with layering might need a little time adjusting seen as often the waterproof membrane is on the inside and not on the outside but this modular system has many advantages.
Combining this with the similarly constructed Tectonic H2O motorcycle trousers is an obvious choice.
