This helmet comes standard with a fitted clear visor and a tinted visor in the box. Mirror visors are available as an option.
The SCORPION EXO-GT SP Air is a full-face helmet and part of SCORPION’s APEX series. In this series, the Korean motorcycle helmet manufacturer incorporates just about everything they have to offer to deliver a number of very crisp motorcycle helmets. Technology, craftmanship, premium materials, weight, ventilation and comfort … There’s a lot to explain about this SCORPION EXO-GT SP Air.
The SCORPION EXO-GT SP Air complies with (and outshines) the most recent ECE 22.06 certification and is without a doubt a first-class motorcycle helmet.
No less than three helmet shells were provided to contain the total of seven sizes. Tight and sharp at the same time. Aerodynamic lines are a given in sporty full-face helmets like this one, including all the SCORPION elements. It’s light too, thanks to the innovative ‘pregreg’ shell – a combination of carbon fibre and composite fibre – that adds shock absorption without the extra weight. The end result is 1,500 grams on the scales.
The top and chin ventilation is 100% operable without any issue. The supplied wind cools the motorcycle helmet – and refreshes your head – after which everything is guided out through the ventilation grilles in the spoiler of the SCORPION EXO-GT SP Air. The design is gorgeous too, very intuitive and sufficiently robust to be able to trust that these things can be opened and closed quite a few times reliably.
About that: the feeling is mutual. SCORPION grants a 5-year warranty on this motorcycle helmet.
The transparent ‘Optical class 1’ visor with aspheric surface comes with a Microlock system which means that opening and closing the visor is very enjoyable. We’d almost call it gliding. There’s a calibration point halfway, which helps you find that position automatically (and hence, the two extremes). A little extra push locks the visor centrally when completely flipped down. To open, you simply push the lock button again.
The transparent visor is Pinlock MaxVision-lens-ready – which is supplied in the box.
An integrated and height-adjustable Dark Smoke sun visor is also included. This is also ‘Optical Class 1’, so not too many distorted or vague looks onto reality. The slider is positioned on the left behind the hinge point of the transparent visor. That’s also where you will find the button to change the lowest point of the sun visor. To operate that one, it’s easier to be able to see what you’re doing so it might not be the best idea to do that while you’re riding. However, once this is set, you usually don’t have to change it.
The ’Air’ in the name of this esteemed full-face helmet refers to the integrated Airfit system: with a miniature bellows, placed centrally in the chin piece, you can inflate the interior to fully customise the fit of your motorcycle helmet. This is brilliant if you exchange your balaclava or winter neck warmer to something a little breezier. Or for anyone because even though it might seem that way, your head might not have the same proportions, day in day out. To release the air from the cheek pads, you use the little valve on the left side of the red air pump; just to make sure you don’t end up with a squeezed head.
Kwikfit cheek pads allow for most glasses to be worn normally without having to ride half a day with your glasses on crooked or a head-splitting headache. Quite a lot of attention went into comfort – that much is for sure. The Cool Tech lining perfectly matches that principle and even underlines it. It feels right, which is very important in a motorcycle helmet. Noise cancelling really succeeds in supressing outside noises, providing a serene and comfortable feeling. It helps that you can customise the fit of the interior, and the wind curtain at the chin and the breath deflector are excellent complementary assets as well.
The Double-D ring closure of the SCORPION EXO-GT SP Air is first-rate and what we would expect from a motorcycle helmet of this calibre and this high quality.
For maintenance of this helmet, we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the exterior. For cleaning the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches or dullness cause blinding reflections from streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
