This updated ST-7 Prime GTX is a fine and refined motorcycle jacket with laminated GORE-TEX construction. It provides protection against the weather elements and it gives a certain style, creating a comfortable all-seasons motorcycle jacket for daily commuting.
With this ST-7 Prime GTX, Alpinestars have once again delivered top quality. The GTX refers to the two layers (2L) of GORE-TEX that have been laminated to the wear-resistant outer layer. A laminated motorcycle jacket that keeps moisture out is what it all comes down to. It ensures a quick dry after a rainy ride and it prevents – as is often the case with loose membranes – a soaked layer somewhere in there. In the opposite direction, the GORE-TEX guarantees excellent breathability and a healthy climate control. This specific construction produces a relatively light unit, with another dose of wear-resistance added thanks to the cleverly positioned ripstop.
Underneath that outer layer, we find a removable PrimaLoft lining. With 130 grams on the torso and 100 grams on the sleeves you can enjoy the warmth without having to compromise in the field of movability. If you want, you can store the thermal lining in its designated storage compartment in the lower back. If you’re still too hot, you can always open the long, vertical ventilation zips on the chest for more air. You can zip open these vent panels while you are riding, flip them and fix them, which makes it all very flexible and easy. If you also bring the ventilation zips on your sleeves into battle, then we’re looking more in the direction of spring and especially summer time. So, an all-rounder with an adventurous nature and appearance.
The cut and fit match that look. Alpinestars know what they are doing – this is not their first production. Fans may detect a hint of anatomic and ergonomic contouring in the arms, elbows, shoulders… You notice they don’t get much resistance. This shaping postpones fatigue and keeps comfort levels high. In the waist, there’s a press stud to tighten or loosen the motorcycle jacket with a couple of centimetres. The sleeves can be adjusted too by means of Velcro. That the back of the ST-7 Prime GTX is longer than the front is evident in adventurous touring motorcycle jackets like the ST-7 Prime GTX.
Internally, the Tech-Air® Ready ST-7 2L Prime GTX motorcycle jacket has obviously been supplied with the required impact protection: the ever-excellent CE Level 2 Nucleon Flex Pro elbow and shoulder protection. The Nucleon Plasma back protector (level 2-certified) or Nucleon KR-CELLi back protector (level 1-certified) is optional, which is also true for the (double) chest protection.
The storage pocket in the lower back is complemented with two pockets on the outside and a number on the inside. Good to know is that there is also a little storage compartment on the left upper arm.
The ST-7 Prime GTX is a robust, versatile adventure companion that can take almost anything that comes its way – no questions asked. It makes sense to combine it with the eponymous motorcycle trousers, creating a whole that is larger than the sum of its parts.
