The well-known, tried and tested and still supported ‘cigarette lighter’ is something that can be found on many motorcycles even today. The only thing that has changed is the application, which requires an adaptor like this one if you want to keep everything charged and active on your ride.
The DIN plug 90° converts to two USB ports thanks to this right-angle weather-resistant O-114 adaptor. You can use it to charge two devices at the same time. Well, as long as they respectively use a USB-A and a USB-C port. The powerful 3300mA charging current is divided when both the USB-C and the USB-A are used.
So, from the cigarette lighter (hence, the 12V system with 12V lead-acid battery or 12.8V lithium battery of the motorcycle) to the (wide) USB-A and/or the (most recent, smaller) USB-C. This is all safe because the Optimate has a number of integrated safeguards: against short-circuiting, overheating and with an overvoltage protection, and with a USB output that stops when the battery’s charging level drops below 12.4V.
Attention: the right-angle DIN plug 90° is an elbow connector; check first whether the position of the plug is right for you.
It also works on those BMWs and Triumphs that have a modern 12V battery, lead-acid (Pb / AGM) or lithium-Ion (LiFePO4 / LFP) and it does not drain the battery when the motorcycle is parked in your garage.
