Don't be fooled by the image and the category: although this is strictly speaking a hoodie (soft material + hood) the Clarke has just a bit more to it. It's not a full-blooded motorcycle jacket, though. Modeka itself calls it a softshell jacket and maybe that's what it is.
The outside in - you guessed it - softshell is easy. But then: shoulders and elbows got an extra layer of abrasion resistant textile, which immediately surpasses regular hoodie qualities. In addition, the softshell outer shell is equipped with a Hitex®-Z-liner membrane. This is an integrated, water- and windproof layer and this means that the range of possibilities is much wider. Modeka has put everything we have described so far - apart from the softshell - into one full-fledged touring jacket. Moreover, the Clarke also has a removable thermal lining. Then we have just about covered the entire spectrum of weather conditions. In a hoodie, indeed. Which we hardly dare call a hoodie.
Does that mean you'll be riding this all during the fall? We would think not, although there can be moments where it's perfectly possible. Fact is that a lot is possible, if the circumstances are willing a little bit. And you don't look for the extremes. This is for example clearly not a race jacket, but WINNER is responsible for the flexible shoulder and elbow protectors. These are CE-certified (EN 1621-1:2012) and can be supplemented, if necessary by a CE-approved back protector. The latter is optional. So you come a lot further than you might think at first.
The Clarke can take a beating. And the wearer may rest assured: this is fine. Two side pockets, a breast pocket and one or two inside pockets. A good central zip, a ribbed waist and ribbed sleeve ends. A good hood - that belongs to a hoodie - that can be removed (zipper) ...
On the level of casual motorcycle clothing, this Clarke stands out. By a long shot.
