This helmet comes standard with a fitted clear visor and a tinted visor in the box. Mirror visors are available as an option.
The Scorpion ADF-9000 Air Carbon has a strong motorcycle helmet shell made of composite material that includes carbon fibre. ‘Ultra TCT Carbon’ is the technical term, and with three different helmet shells that contain all helmet sizes, it keeps the scale at the good side of the spectrum. Less than 1,500 grams for a complete motorcycle helmet like this one – with visor, sun visor and sun peak – is not much.
Ow and did we mention how brilliantly shiny it is.
We can elaborate a little on the motorcycle helmet shell. Ultra TCT Carbon is a material that has been developed by Scorpion with a new structure that apart from being very light is also ‘crumpling’. That way, the helmet shell is able to absorb more energy upon a potential impact; saving of course, the head inside it. Which is exactly what a motorcycle helmet is for.
The Scorpion ADF-9000 Air Carbon fulfils all the criteria to successfully pass the ECE 22.06 certification, complying perfectly with the most recent safety standards.
The general appearance of the Scorpion ADF-9000 Air Carbon is so un-general that there is no mistaking: this motorcycle helmet is developed for on-road and offroad use. By choosing to either install or deinstall the sun peak, you play with the aerodynamics of this motorcycle helmet, which is up to scratch to begin with. When going offroad, you might even consider retiring your transparent visor for a while, which is no issue at all: the entire Scorpion ADF-9000 Air Carbon is semi-modular. You can remove the transparent visor just as easily as fitting modern cross goggles instead. Your peripheral vision is wide under all circumstances thanks to the wide visor opening, allowing you to keep an eye on your surroundings.
The protruding chin guard with its four mesh ventilation openings cannot hide its motocross ambitions. The top ventilation – that can be opened and closed – however, would fit any full-face helmet and the aerodynamics in the back were not coincidentally designed so that the wide strap of those motocross goggles fits right in. The Scorpion ADF-9000 Air Carbon is unreservedly intended for dual use, and by saying ‘dual’, we are actually downplaying it.
There is as much going on externally as there is internally. The Airfit system that allows you to adjust the cheek pads to size really benefits safety while also affecting wind, shocks and any helmet lift when you’re really going full throttle. Comfortable and safe, did we mention those two?
The interior was given an ‘emergency system’, or an ‘emergency Microlock system’ that allows the cheek pads to be removed following a crash – we prefer you not do that – without having to take off the helmet. In all other circumstances, we’d rather focus on the Kwickwick (generation 3 already) that is antibacterial, temperature-regulating, hygienic, washable and removable.
You operate the integrated sun visor at the left, near the hinge point. If you are not able to locate that lever, then you’d better get off the motorcycle and take the bus. The transparent visor is Pinlock-ready (Pinlock Max Vision-lens supplied) and UV-resistant, as it should. There’s also a smoked version in the box that will show you just how easy it is to swap visors.
A wide neck rim and a titanium Double-D ring closure match the whole of the Scorpion ADF-9000 Air Carbon perfectly.
Cut-outs for glasses, a breath deflector, the option to easily integrate an intercom system and a wind curtain chin, with all those extras and eye-catching elements the common features are somewhat pushed to the end of the description.
For maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections from streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
