This helmet comes standard with a clear visor. Tinted and mirrored visors are available as options.
The SCORPION EXO-491 is the logical successor to the motorcycle helmet with the number ‘490’ and complies completely with the new ECE R22.06 certification. With an integrated sun visor, this full-face helmet is an all-round plus that can be used on a daily basis. Its sharp price is an additional asset.
The SCORPION EXO-491 has a helmet shell in polycarbonate. Three different helmet shells contain all eight available motorcycle helmet sizes, which keeps their weight within reasonable limits. We don’t hear any complaints when the scale shows 1,600 and a few grams. Between the motorcycle helmet shell and the KwikWick® antimicrobial interior runs the ventilation channel that keeps your head cool in all circumstances. The chin ventilation and triple top ventilation can be opened or closed, allowing riding wind to do its job, leaving the motorcycle helmet through the back. Thanks to the Kwikfit™ cheek pads, you can wear your glasses without issue.
Another mention in the category ‘ventilation’ is the little gap you can leave with your slightly opened transparent visor. Just below the left hinge is a lever to lock the visor in place as well as tilt it up for a couple of millimetres. Attention: only operate the visor lock when the visor is closed. There’s virtually no possible confusion with the slider right above this one because that is used to lower and to flip up the integrated sun visor.
The transparent visor is Pinlock® ready and the Pinlock® DKS107 lens is available optionally. You remove the visor in a matter of seconds without tools and although there’s an integrated sun visor present, there are a number of coloured and mirrored variants to mount.
At the bottom you’ll notice the emergency release system and although we’d prefer to never have to use it, it’s nice to know that SCORPION has incorporated it. The micrometric closure is also of the kind to be attached and detached in one single movement. With a wind curtain chin, the breath deflector, the 22.06 certification and the option to easily fit in a communication system, we happily place this SCORPION EXO-491 on our shortlist of sharply-priced full-face helmets worth considering.
To maintain this helmet, for the exterior we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner. To clean the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections from streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip?
