The SHARK OXO is a top-quality motorcycle helmet with a double homologation. This means that you can wear this modular motorcycle helmet both closed and with the chin-piece flipped up, making it a very versatile motorcycle helmet. We’d almost consider the integrated sun visor (with close-to-unique locking system) and the supplied Pinlock lens regular features.
The double P/J homologation – as a full-face helmet and an equally full jet helmet – is a remarkable phenomenon. Especially in this SHARK OXO, where the entire chin-guard can be flipped backwards, which can take some getting used to. At the same time, it turns the SHARK OXO into an infinitely versatile helmet, being a jet helmet and a full-face helmet in one.
It needs to be said that every next generation of this type of flip-back motorcycle helmets is becoming sharper and more advanced. With the first editions and their bulky chin-pieces (it needed to be able to flip over the entire motorcycle helmet shell), this is a clear evolution. The mechanism needed to transform the SHARK OXO is located inside the chin-piece. The double red button also needs a double manipulation: push and pull. We might make it sound harder than it actually is, but it’s a lot safer nonetheless. When the SHARK OXO is fully flipped open, you can lock it in place with the red slider located at the left hinge.
Two helmet shells contain all helmet sizes, resulting in 1,700 grams (or a little more) for this complete polycarbonate (Lexan) version. This may look like a lot of weight on your head but with a well-fitting SHARK OXO, this is barely noticeable.
Inherent to a motorcycle helmet of this category is ventilation. You are more likely to seek fresh air with the red central button than you are with the vents, so the main purpose of the integrated channels that link the chin and top ventilation is to create a healthy climate. Manipulating the button (chin) and slider (top) is easy with motorcycle gloves on.
The transparent visor is ready to be fitted with a Pinlock lens, which is supplied in the package. Removing and/or replacing the visor is a little more work than ‘usual’, seen as a chin-guard that flips up and backwards shares an attachment and hinge point with the transparent visor. We do feel that the locking system of the SHARK OXO is very intuitive; you don’t need any additional tools. Even the integrated sun visor has a special feature: you can lower it gradually and at any interval, a little push of the button is enough to make it disappear completely at once.
A comfortable interior and mainly a striking finish of the neck rim enhance the comfort levels of the SHARK OXO, which is only increased by the fact that everything is washable and made of high-tech fabric. People with glasses will enjoy the easy fit system, which is the name of the specific cutouts at the temples. The SHARK OXO is fully compatible with the specifically designed for this occasion intercom system by SENA and SHARK, available in a Bluetooth version and a mesh version.
The adjustable micrometric closure is easy to operate, fits and opens perfectly and easily. The wind curtain at the chin is removable.
The SHARK OXO comes with a five-year warranty and has 22.06 certification.
For maintenance of this helmet, we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. A treatment on the outside of the visor with Rain-X anti-rain spray improves visibility during rain.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night scratches cause a blinding reflection of streetlights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
