The completely new i80 by HJC is a versatile motorcycle helmet. With a double homologation and an ECE 22.06 certification, you can wear this motorcycle with the modules open as well as closed. Thanks to the supplied sun peak, we are not afraid to declare that the i80 has the capability of being just about every motorcycle helmet version there is.
This turns the i80 into a versatile and adventurous touring motorcycle helmet. If you leave out the sun peak, then this modular helmet becomes a little more aerodynamic, and for those who want to cruise with the wind caressing their face, you can do that too. Many options and lots of functions. The i80 is made from HJC’s Advanced Polycarbonate Composite Shell (APC) – solid and light at the same time. Three different motorcycle helmet shells contain all sizes (up to 2XL).
Ventilation openings at the top, together with the regulable chin ventilation, create an airflow that finds their way through the i80 all the way to the air outlets in the back. Any moisture or heat disappears along with it. The chin ventilation has a (removable and washable) mesh filter. All the sliders are easy to use, which is good because the i80 has a number of similar control elements; one of which is red, taking up a very central position, literally.
The red hinge is what opens up the chin piece of the i80, which glides into the perfect position almost naturally. With the – also red – slider on the left, you lock the chin piece in place in its open position. The i80 has this mechanism to thank for this motorcycle helmet’s double P/J homologation. This means that you can wear this helmet on your trip and use it in both positions: fully open or completely closed, all while being sure of a comparable safety level.
The sun peak and the transparent visor move in unison with the flip up/flip down movement of the chin piece which allows you to create the most practical setup at that time with one single action. The transparent visor is a 'Pinlock Ready' HJ-44 visor, which offers a 99% UV-protection and has a scratch-resistant coating. The Pinlock lens is supplied. The sun peak can be removed, although its low wind-resistance and steady nature will charm you into simply leaving it on. There’s also an integrated dark smoke sun visor. The operation for this integrated sun visor can be found at the bottom left and can be adjusted by no less than 8 mm.
Then, on the inside, there are comfortable 3D cheek pads that can be replaced to customise the fit. Motorcycle riders who wear glasses will have no issue with the i80 and the entire interior is made of removable, washable, moisture-wicking components and materials.
The removable wind curtain chin is large enough to bridge the switch from – the often close-fitting – full-face helmet, to the – larger – modular helmet and even to the – adventurous and mostly forward-facing – dual sport motorcycle helmet. HJC has extended this concept to the neatly finished neck rim.
The micrometric closure excels in its versatility and ease of use.
In some countries (e.g., France), it is mandatory to provide your helmet with reflective stickers. The i80 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor Cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
