Oil filters for the motorcycle

Without quoting the great technical handbook of engine mechanics: oil filters keep the internal engine clean, by filtering the oil and catching hazardous particles. The oil lubricates the engine while and takes away the residues caused by wear and combustion. Think of combustion residue, soot and metal particles. The oil filter cleans the oil from these irregularities.

Without an oil filter your engine would seize at some point. Without a properly functioning oil filter this can happen too, for that matter. And that is why it is better to replace them regularly.

Types of oil filters

There are many different types of oil filters, but in general they can be divided into two categories: an internal oil filter is a filter that is mounted inside the engine, and an external oil filter is mounted outside the engine.

We offer two different brands of both sub-categories, which are equally good.

The main difference between the two brands lies in the tools for the external filters: Champion oil filters require the use of a filter wrench, which you will of course find on the website. Where this is required, it is explicitly mentioned in the product description. K&N oil filters on the other hand are fitted with a 17 mm nut.

When to change oil?

The maintenance intervals differ per type and per brand. The maintenance booklet or manual of your motorcycle will provide guidance. As a rule of thumb, it is best to install a new oil filter whenever you do a full oil change.
